- Turn the new eSIM on and set it as your mobile data line.
- Enable data roaming for that eSIM.
- Toggle airplane mode, then restart your phone if needed.

Quick self-check
Before your eSIM adventure begins, your device needs to pass the vibe check:
- eSIM compatible — not all phones got the memo
- Carrier-unlocked — free as a bird, not tied to a network
- Stock software — no jailbreaking or rooting shenanigans
Skip the giant phone list. The quickest way to check is to look for the eSIM option right on your device.
Heads up: Carrier locks and some regional Android variants can still block activation even when eSIM appears in settings.
Quick self-check
On iPhone
- Open Settings.
- Tap Cellular or Mobile Data.
- Look for Set Up Cellular, Add eSIM, or Add Cellular Plan.
Looks good if…
You can see Set Up Cellular, Add eSIM, or Add Cellular Plan in settings.
Also confirm…
- Your phone is carrier-unlocked.
- Your iPhone is on standard iOS, not a managed or restricted setup.
Quick self-check
On Android
- Open Settings.
- Tap Connections, Network & Internet, or search Settings for eSIM.
- Look for Add eSIM, SIM manager, or Download a SIM instead.
Looks good if…
You can add or download an eSIM directly from Settings without needing a physical SIM swap.
Also confirm…
- Your phone is carrier-unlocked.
- Your exact regional model supports eSIM, not just the device family.
You're usually good to go if you can see the eSIM option in settings and your phone is unlocked.
